Esolution adds bars to its portfolio

Esolution adds Prestressing bars to its products range to the market, the application range as follows:

  • Reinforcing systems
  • Mining
  • Geotechnical systems, Anchors,
  • Anchors are always used in situations in which high tensile forces must be transferred into the ground. Typical applications include, for example, anchoring of excavation sheeting or retaining walls, slope and rock stabilization or anchoring for bridge abutments or wind turbine masts.
  • Geotechnical systems, Soil Nailing
  • the principle of soil nailing consists in installing reinforcements in the form of bars (soil nails) into the natural soil in order to increase the tensile and shear strength of the ground. This creates a monolithic compound structure whose load-bearing property is like that of a gravity retaining wall loaded by external forces.
  • Hollow-bar nails
  • consist of three main components: the nail head, the steel tendon – including sleeve and single-use drill bit – and the grout body. The steel tendon is a hollow steel bar with cold rolled round thread and can therefore be cut or joined at any desired point, available products for both use permanent and temporary applications
  • Solid-bar nails
  • consist of three main components: the nail head, the steel tendon and the grout body. The steel tendon is a round steel bar with coarse, hot rolled thread ribs and can therefore be cut or joined at any desired point, available products for both use permanent and temporary applications
  • Tunneling
  • Anchors, Strand anchors

    • consist of three main components: the anchor head, a steel tendon - divided into the bond section and free length - and the grout body, The steel tendon is constructed from a number of 7-wire prestressing strands,
    • Anchors, Bar anchors
    • consist of three main components: the anchor head, a steel tendon - divided into the bond section and free length - and the grout body, The steel tendon is a round steel bar with coarse, hot rolled thread ribs and can therefore be cut or joined at any desired point.
    • available for both temporary with service life up to two years and permanent applications up to 100 years
    • The prestressing force applied to the anchor head using hydraulic equipment is introduced through the freely extensible prestressing tendon and the grout body into a load-bearing soil layer. The created anchoring force then acts actively on the anchored building component and the anchor does not require a displacement of the anchored component in order to become effective.
  • Posttensioning systems,
    • The post-tensioning system is frequently used in the restoration and strengthening of buildings, with a complete prestressing systems for structures: tendons with internal bonding, without bonding and with external tendons, For very short prestressing tendons, smooth steel with a fine rolled thread is used because of its very low slip rates.
  • Internal tendons
    • with bonding are used primarily in concrete, composite and masonry structures. Internal tendons without bonding and external tendons are typically used in transverse prestressing, for bridge improvements, in renovation, as a joining element for steel structures and machines and for temporary anchoring.
  • Formwork ties, steel tendon
  • together with accessories specific to the particular application. The steel tendon is a section of round bar steel with coarse, hot-rolled thread ribs. This can therefore be cut or joined at any desired point.
  •    Geotechnical systems, Micro piles

    • Micro piles are a  deep foundation elements with a small diameter of up to 300 mm, by means of which loads from the superstructure are transferred to lower-lying, load-bearing soil layers through skin friction.
    • Micro piles can transfer tensile, compression and alternating loads. Typical applications are the foundation or strengthening of existing foundations of structures (e.g. buildings, bridges, retaining walls, masts etc.) or uplift restraint for structures in groundwater.

Esolution Awarded Supply and installation of Pre-tension Girders in Cairo-Egypt

Mostaqbal City Bridge project been designed as Pre-tensioned Girders onsite precast concrete, where Esolution have supplied stressing equipment required for the project as per the specification, tested and calibrated along with the Open Barrel and wedges, Pretensioning grips are anchor grips designed for multi-use. They are chiefly used in the production of factory-made or onsite precast members where the concrete is cast around previously tensioned tendons. Such anchor grips are made to high quality standards to ensure that a high number of reuses is obtained.

Wedges been fabricated with A high degree of dimensional accuracy, automated production, careful heat treatment and strict quality control ensure our products being of the highest quality. By subjecting the wedges to 100% hardness testing and 100% tooth-form testing by means of computer cameras, followed by automatic assembly  and the performance of tensile tests, PAUL expends far more effort on testing than is officially required.

the wedges are subjected several times to loads equalling 65% and 80% of the breaking load of the wire or strand with which they are to be used and then once right through to breakage. Of the pretensioning wedges, ones with the lowest and ones with the highest hardness are stressed 10 times with 80% of the breaking load and then once right through to breakage,The wedge-shaped segments are hardened to 60 – 65 HRC. In the hardening shop they are subjected to stringent tests, the results of which are recorded for each delivery. Additional tests are carried out . In a manual test on 1% of the wedges the surface hardness, core hardness and case of depth are checked. In addition, every single post-tensioning wedge and most of the pretensioning wedges undergo an automatic surface hardness test.

The anchor barrels must be absolutely free of cracks as can be well understood if one thinks of the stresses they are required to bear and of what could happen if they were to fail. Although barrels are turned from bars that are guaranteed by the supplier to be free of cracks, all are tested again before delivery on an ultrasonic tester. Only such barrels as have passed this test twice in succession are stamped as having been tested and released for delivery.

Esolution will run all installation, stressing of the cables up to consultant approval, the project feautures pre-tension work in Cairo-Egypt and the process are to be maintained with highest quality for the materials used in pre-stressing/pre-tensioned work

Tilt up education at BIG-05, Dubai

By: E-Solution / Mohamed Zaid, CEng. M. ASCE, Associate member – ACI-551 / ACI-423

The Big-05 exhibition is an event that is held annually in Dubai and many other cities around the world. The event attracts architects, engineers, interior designers and other key buyers.

By: Mohamed Zaid, CEng. M. ASCE, Senior Structural Engineer, Associate member – ACI-551 / ACI-423

The Big-05 exhibition is an event that is held annually in Dubai and many other cities around the world. The event attracts architects, engineers, interior designers and other key buyers.

The Big-05 includes CPD (Continuing professional development) certified workshops, and on of these workshops, covering tilt-up concrete construction, was held on November 11, 2014. The workshop was presented by Mr. Mohamed Zaid (senior structural engineer) and was reviewed by Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) technical director, James Baty. A portion of the material based on “The Architecture of Tilt-Up” was supplied by the TCA.

The presentation aimed at introducing the tilt-up method of construction to an audience of construction professionals not too familiar with the system. Almost all attendees had experience with precast concrete construction however. Identifying the differences between both construction methods and comparing them during the workshop allowed attendees to gain understanding quickly.

Contractors who attended the workshop were impressed by the tilt-up method of construction. They expressed interest following the presentation in the ability to promote the system without investing in precast factory setup. Additionally, some countries in the region have logistical and geographic difficulties working with precast. Transportation of the precast elements to cities, such as Saudi Arabia, can be difficult as some sites cannot be accessed during construction due to geographic location. For instance the boarder between Saudi Arabia and Oman presents difficulty.

The rapid construction and tight scheduling of projects in the region keeps contractors looking forward for solutions other than traditional or precast concrete solutions, wanting to avoid the use of sub-contractors that may, due to workloads and geographic location of the project, cause delays.

The key points discussed during the workshop were as follows.

  • The maximum weight of the panels that can be cast at one time using tilt-up compared to precast concrete construction
  • Panel dimensions compared to precast concrete
  • Minimum panel thicknesses according to ACI-318 compared to ACI-551
  • Skilled labor requirements for tilt-up

TILT-UP CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION AWARENESS RAMPED UP IN EMERGING COUNTRIES

By: Mohamed Zaid, CEng. M. ASCE

When compared to other durable building systems, tilt-up construction presents incredible value in emerging countries where new construction methods are being investigated. The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA), through its partners, has been working to spread word of the great benefits tilt-up affords. TCA members have conducted free educational seminars in Somalia, Egypt and other countries throughout the region and have met one-on-one with contractors interested in the system to work through details and strategy.

Tilt-up presents a new technology in-line with the needs and capabilities of these emerging countries. Compared to other systems that require heavy investments in facilities that most investors find infeasible, tilt-up is able to compete with the very low-cost traditional construction methods prevalent in the area.

The accessible nature of tilt-up technology is a key factor in its success. There is no setup for any factory, no transportation is required as all panels are cast on site, and issues of skilled labors are easily resolved with tilt-up construction. Crane availability and capacity remain the most restricting component to consider.

The issue was discussed with Mohammed Ayad, project manager with TCA Member, e-solution Construction & Engineering, and he suggested simply requesting engineers restrict panel weights to the maximum lifting capacity of available cranes. “Tilt-up concrete is the most easy construction method I’ve been made aware of. The laborers picked up the concept quickly,” said Ayad. “The safety benefits made them happy, as the panel can be seen all over the ground and safety during work is very controlled. I was surprised how quickly they were able to do the first panel with the company in Egypt, it was as if they already knew how to do it.”

Tilt-up first came to be recognized in Somalia when TCA members met in Dubai to discuss details of a project. Now it is taking off. The attraction to the method in that market is the cost and high quality, durable finished product.

Awareness is the first step towards increased interest. Providing education where contractors and owners show interest is critical in helping them implement the construction method in their countries. As awareness of tilt-up increases, more contractors and owners have shown their interest and taken steps towards doing their projects using tilt-up concrete panels. The TCA is proud to support the effort of its members doing this important work.

INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC RELIEF TOWER IN MECCA - THE CHALLENGE

The porject is located in Mecca with three towers on same basement , its very traditional construction of towers with expansion joint divides three towers , the towers forms U shape in plan , the challange came up in the project is the connecting bridge between the right and left side

The brigde is three spans bearing on concrete walls that is elevated from 7th floor to 9th floor with total height of 8.50 meters , the wall is laterally supported by the slabs in 7th , 8th and 9th floor , post tension  ribbed slabs selected to cover the 12 meter spans between the walls , the ribbed slabs is rested on the right and left towers on beams , where the beams is formed with nibs that recieves the slabs on bearing pad designed by BASF to retain the ribbed slabs reactions and allow the movemenet between the brigde and towers that is originally separated in the same locations with expansion joints as described previously

the project located on the ring road in Mecca in return the bridge as proposed in the tender design drawings to be made of precast concrete is impossible since the cranes cannot be positioned on the road since its not allowed in any form to use the road or to be closed during construction

the challange in the project came up with the formwork since the first bridged slab is 35 meters heigh from the ground floor slab and that makes the deisgn of the formwork itself a challange , the slab is too compilcated for the construction , our project Engineer Mr. Helaly was able to faciltate the coordination process in which all of the main contractor workforce was aware of the slab design and difficulties , the first slab is casted on Jan.06.2016 and project is progressing to cast reminaining slabs

Design Challange

The walls is connecting two main columns of the tower , the external column is 35 meters high with 1600 mm diameter and the internal column tower is square column of 1600X1600 mm , the wall spanning vertically and horizonttally to support the floor slabs and transfer those loads to columns , the design considered the construction stages and the formwork design that can only retain the load of the 7th and 8th slab weight only , during the design of the walls all this stages has been considered and agreed with the consultant ( zuhair Fayez ) , main contractor ( Al Arif ) and the formwork designers

Esolution construction & Engineering completes the design and construction work for the Islamic relief tower in Makkah, the tower that consists of Ground, 6 services floors, 17 Typical floors and roof, have been completed in one year.

The tower first typical slab and last service floor slab, received changes in vertical supporting members locations, where esolution been able to use the posttensioning in their work to modify the slabs deflection in order to reduce the total deflection for the supporting elements, construction stages been taken in consideration during the design stage.

Coordination with MEP completed during construction work to cope with any delays and finish the tower at the dead lines, where the tower been complete two months earlier than required by the building owner (Islamic relief organization in Makkah)

The Islamic relief 10 is the second tower that been built and completed with Islamic relief in Makkah, esolution supplied all the posttension material and applied them in very fast matter that made the casting easy before planned timing.

Pearl Compound in Al- Khobar-Saudi Arabia

esolution construction & Engineering awarded the design and construction of post tension floors in Pearl compound , the project consist of eight different type of building , each is repeated two times , the project ran through some changes due to the value Engineering requested by the owner in return there were so many repair to be made in the project first floor slabs that is made of precast concrete slabs on cast at site beams .

esolution Design team rectifies the design of hotel building in Jeddah

The hotel complicated design has been awarded to esolution to review the original design, esolution design team findings on the foundations was very critical due to overlooked designed building weight using different software that made the error during design, however the foundation been cast already before esolution design team to be involved into the review work.

Esolution design team in Dubai suggested reduction of total building weight that has been successful to approach before construction happens for first slab in the structure.

Esolution designed all building elements includes precast concrete works and its connection details with the use of building information modeling, esolution developed a structure design model for the tower and that made coordination work easy for all other parties

Tilt up education at BIG-05, Kuwait

y: Mohamed Zaid, CEng. M. ASCE, Design Manager , Associate member – ACI-551 / ACI-423

The Big-05 exhibition is an event that is held annually in Kuwait and many other cities around the world. The event attracts architects, engineers, interior designers and other key buyers.

The Big-05 includes CPD (Continuing professional development) certified workshops, and on of these workshops, covering tilt-up concrete construction, was held on Sep.15, 2015. The workshop was presented by Mr. Mohamed Zaid (Design Manager) and was reviewed by Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) technical director, James Baty. A portion of the material based on “The Architecture of Tilt-Up” was supplied by the TCA.

The presentation held previously to construction professionals in Dubai – November 2014, where attendees have a good back ground on precast concrete, compared to what is observed in Kuwait city that almost except two of the attendees didn’t work closely with precast concrete and never heard of tilt-up construction as one of the choices in the construction field, the raised question on compilation of the project referred to consultants that wanted to know more about the tilt-up, they were specific about their interest to try the tilt-up concrete in their project starting from boundary walls that can be made of tilt-up (precast on site) as a trail to compare the cost and time cycle, a discussion after the presentation was held on the panels weight that may go for and again surprisingly the length of the boundary wall that expected they can for according to their crane capacities at site for a boundary wall with 4.00 meters height measured from higher level road was 20 meters and weight of 24.00 tons, where the panels as proposed in precast divided each five meters noted the difference in time cycle of the construction and less joints appears in the boundary walls elevation. However, still that proposed trail isn’t the best out of tilt-up since as noted the panels weight would be up to 100 tons, but however they would consider the tilt-up in their projects if succeeded in the first trail with boundary walls.

he audiences were able to identify the differences between the precast and tilt-up concrete as they recognized that they will have to go for a trail at site to have their own experience about the construction method, expecting more communication with TCA to gain more knowledge about the design, detailing and construction of the tilt-up.

Kuwait compared to Saudi Arabia don’t face a challenge of logistics for the area is served can’t be compared, referring to number of precast factories that exist in Kuwait, the ability to supply the products as per demanded by the contractors is limited, most of the projects as observed rely on the precast hollow core slabs as the only element to purchase to help the project, faster production of the hollow core slab is the only advantage they gained from precast concrete, tilt-up construction

  • Skilled labor requirements for tilt-up
  • Connections between elements and the similarities between precast and tilt-up

POST WORKSHOP FEEDBACK

“I will be happy to introduce more to our clients about the tilt-up as we’ve never heard of it “ Mr. Mohd Ali – Oil&Gas Field

“We will go for a trail boundary wall to have both construction system compared and surely we can understand the benefits that we will gain from the tilt-up, if so we will go for it for any further project” – Mr. Moh’d Hamed, Main contractor

esolution Management to Upscale Egypt's Team skills to train them on the Building information modeling

esolution Management recognizes the importance of people training and development and to align the team in different branches to be on the same level with their peers.

Mr. Amr Al-Taher ( Saudi Arabia Branch Manager ) stated that, "Individuals need ongoing training and development to help them become more effective, and take on bigger and more significant challenges. Moreover, they need help in learning new skills as the nature of their work requires".

To emphasize on this, Mr. Mohammed Ayad (Egypt Branch Manager) approved a training module to new junior Architects.

Ayad spoke with individual Architects on why they would want to be trained on Building information modeling software, and gathered their feedback to identify the importance of this training for them and to understand how they foresee their future development in the company.

Ayad proceed "its not about what we do, its about how we do it through our employess who are passionate about their work

Rana Hassan, Junior Architect said,

"Building information modeling is a dream that came true for all engineers and architects, it helps them to come together all as one by linking between architectural and construction, it allows teams to understand what's going on in 3D with high level of customization and flexibility and it reduces the amount of conflict which leads us to faster design process and documentation without loss of cost and quality  In short ,BIM increases overall project quality ,and that's why i want to learn Building Information modeling "

Yasmine, Junior Architect added,

" i want to learn building information modeling to develop my own skills and support the company to do more with less, to exchange the information between all parties in an easy controlled way, that resolves the coordination issues between different disciplines and helps the project to be integrated"

Sandra Fawzy, Junior Architect added,

"BIM is an acronym for Building Information Modelling, or Building Information Model. It describes the process of designing a building collaboratively using one coherent system of computer models rather than as separate sets of drawings , At the technical core of BIM is the software that enables 3D modelling and information management.  Extensive use of the software eventually leads to a more complete understanding of the technical core"

Ala'a Aly, Junior Architect said,

“I was wanting to learn Building Information Modeling software to produce high quality projects documents in less time in an easier and faster process, integrating structural electrical, mechanical engineering and architectural to simulate the construction in which the engineer has the opportunity to better understand the building and the construction process, where working on one centralized model is the easiest way to coordinate the project without being lost between documents and revisions”

esolution introduced Building information modeling in Saudi Arabia since 2013, and affectively in Octobor 2014.

The feedback on 3D modeling as awarness increased in the Saudi Arabia market helped interested parties to exert more effort to include BIM in all their projects
